Altaro VM Backup is a powerful and easy-to-use backup solution for virtual machines hosted on VMware and Hyper-V. It has a lot of features you would need on a daily basis, one of them is SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol). SMTP is responsible for sending emails to the IT Admin or a group of people for backup job status. In other words, the IT Admin can get notifications for successful backups, failed backups, and completed restore operations. You can send notifications directly to email or you can monitor backup jobs with dedicated NMS (Network Monitoring Solution).

The configuration procedure is straightforward.

  1. Connect to Altaro server using Altaro Management Console
  2. Expand Setup and then choose Notifications > Email Notification Settings
  3. Select Send Email notifications for completed operations. In the case below, Altaro VM Backup will send email notifications for successful and failed offsite backups.
  4. Configure the SMTP Server by adding the following parameters: SMTP server address, SMTP port, use SSL encryption, credentials, the email address used to send email notifications and list of recipients.
