Those of you who follow my work here on the blog or on my LinkedIn have noticed that I am a heavy user of BDRSuite, a backup product that takes care of my home lab workloads.

A couple of days ago, Vembu released a new version of BDRSuite, v7, with cool improvements. This article provides insights into the new release, covering its latest features and enhancements.

New Features in v7.0.0

In this section, we will explore the 8 new features introduced in BDRSuite version 7.0.0. These features encompass KVM, AWS, Azure, and PostgreSQL backup. Additionally, BDRSuite now supports 2FA for enhanced security, importing backup data, executing pre and post scripts, and file recovery to the source machine.

KVM Backup and Recovery
BDRSuite has seamlessly integrated with the KVM Hypervisor, enabling agentless backup solutions for KVM virtual machines. This integration offers a range of recovery options, affording you complete control over the restoration of your critical virtual machines, whether it be the entire virtual machine, specific files, or other components.

Azure Backup and Recovery
With the support of agentless backup, BDRSuite now provides backup solutions for Azure virtual machines through Azure Native APIs. This feature allows for incremental backups and the flexibility to store your backup data either locally or in various cloud storage options, including Azure Blob, AWS S3, Google Cloud, and S3-compatible storage solutions.

AWS Backup and Recovery
Enjoy the advantages of agentless backups, incremental backup support, and the ability to customize backup policies for your AWS infrastructure with BDRSuite. This affords you the flexibility not only to generate snapshots but also to select the destination for your backup data concerning Amazon EC2 instances.

PostgreSQL Backup and Recovery
BDRSuite now offers comprehensive backup capabilities for PostgreSQL databases, encompassing application-level backups, customizable backup policies, incremental backups, and efficient data protection for PostgreSQL databases.

File Share Backup and Recovery
You can now backup file shares hosted on NAS devices, Windows, and Linux machines utilizing BDRSuite. This allows you to automate backups through flexible scheduling options, retain backup data, and facilitate the restoration of files and folders as needed.

Two-factor authentication (2FA)
Strengthen the security of your BDRSuite Servers with Two-Factor Authentication, ensuring that only authorized individuals can access the BDRSuite Backup Server web console and your critical backup jobs.

Import Backup Data
In challenging scenarios such as the failure of a backup server or the need to import backups from another backup server, BDRSuite simplifies the process by allowing the easy import of backups from a backup repository, even when a backup job has been deleted but the backup data remains in the repository.

Pre/Post Backup Scripts
BDRSuite now provides users with the capability to automate tasks both before and after the backup operation using pre and post-backup scripts, applicable to VMs, disk images, and file-level backups.

File Level Recovery to Source Machine
Enhance data recovery by simplifying the process of restoring files and folders directly to the source machine.
